This excerpt from the linked Wikipedia article for the name abstractly summarizes it nicely.

It reached the rank of the sixth most popular name for girls in the United States in 1912 and maintained that popularity through 1920, but then its popularity dropped quickly afterward.[2]

The name Mildred was very common about a hundred years ago, but never really at any other point since. If you see the name Mildred without seeing the person in question your first thoughts will be that they are extremely old. That’s really about it.

on a large scale doesn’t this mostly protect people from dangerous debts?

Not really. It just ends up with lenders offering far more predatory interest rates, which worsens the situation for the debtor. The system is set up in such a way that you can spiral pretty hard with a single misstep.

  • I’ve recently started wondering how many people are here because they’re too toxic for regular social media rather than because they want to be here.

This has largely been my operating assumption as well since day one when I came over during the Reddit API lockdown. I was fairly active on a NSFW alt up until recently and I’ve actually seen dozens of comments from new users mentioning that the only reason they were here on Lemmy was because they were banned from Reddit and had no other viable options. They were always an asshole to the posters and the reality is that with a lower population of users is that there aren’t enough other voices to drown out these people yet and you end up with a feedback loop of toxicity.

Thank you. I almost typed out a similar comment, but deleted it.

Although this meme is just supposed to be “thing, bigger thing” maybe half the time I see it it’s someone trying to say “thing, objectively better thing” and it just feels really gross. I hate most memes that are just stolen social media posts of people living their lives honestly.

I get it. I do standard deadlifts first thing on my back day because I don’t like fatiguing my posterior chain on leg day, but it definitely causes grip problems by the end of my workout. Maybe it’s just me, but you’ll probably be lifting lower weights typically with an RDL which may be where the comments are coming from.

I’m going to disregard the original comment because a lot of factors are going into the impressiveness and everyone’s body is different, but you can’t really compare your flat bench progression with your deadweight lifts accurately to gauge progress. Either way, progress is progress and congrats on your gains friend!

  • Just to add to what Daemon provided in the post, aside from hitting the comment button you can also hit the ‘view source’ option from the comment drop-down menu in Jerboa and it will show deleted and mod/admin removed comments as well in plain text.

Not sure if this is intended behavior or not as I actually appreciate the ability to do so. It helps to not lose context in conversations with deleted/removed material while still providing a small barrier to a casual observer.

I always hate any viral math post for the simple reason that it gives me PTSD flashbacks to my Real Analysis classes.

The blog post is fine, but could definitely be condensed quite a bit across the board and still effectively make the same points would be my only critique.

At it core Mathematics is the language and practices used in order to communicate numbers to one another and it’s always nice to have someone reasonably argue that any ambiguity of communication means that you’re not communicating effectively.
