As an author, what’s your opinion on piracy of books?
If it means more people are reading my book, I’m good. Maybe they’ll buy the next one, or recommend it to their book club, who knows?
Been using this site ever since zlib went down. Even though zlib did come back, this has become my main book piracy site. Amazing resource for books
Just to give perspective on how rapacious the textbook industry has become:
When I was in nursing school (graduated in May), even though I “purchased” the textbooks, it turned out what I purchased was only a license to access the textbook through their proprietary e-reader app for the semester. As soon as the semester was over, my access to the textbook disappeared.
This is the model that the textbook companies want. No more reselling used books to even recover a small portion of funds.
This is why piracy of textbooks is thriving.
Everything turned into “as a service” model. Fucking greed.
Does someone know how this compares to oceanpdf?
Stupid question, but I unfortunately don’t have any idea so far about pirating. Would it be enough to just use a VPN when downloading, to not get into trouble?
Pretty much. You can do without it in some cases as well… So sticking with a no-logs VPN should be enough.
